Welcome to
Work & Family Balance

What is it?
This service supports members in balancing their personal commitments with their family and work life. With the demands of modern work schedules, family responsibilities, and personal time, it can be challenging to stay engaged in personal activities. This initiative aims to provide resources, strategies, and support to help members integrate their responsibilities without added stress.

Who is it for?
All members, their friends, and families who wish to integrate their personal activities with family life and personal responsibilities.

Why is it important?
According to the Cabinet Office Community Life Survey, 2018-19:
  • 22% of adults in England are members of a club, society or organisation. Although this data relates to England only there is no reason to believe the situation is substantially different in Wales, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
  • Of these, 42% are engaged in hobbies, social clubs and recreation. This equates to approximately 2.7 million male adults in England alone.
  • The most significant barriers to participation are work commitments (49%), other commitments (35%), home or childcare (23%).
Freemasons, facing increasing demands on their time, expect well-managed, meaningful, efficient and enjoyable meetings that justify their commitment. If we can help to enhance this balance alongside the core values of Freemasonry, this will not only benefit our lodges individually but the broader fraternity as a whole.

Examples of Support:
  • Family-Friendly Events: Organizing activities that allow members to include their families, making participation more accessible.
  • Time Management Workshops: Sessions on prioritization, setting boundaries, and maintaining a balance between commitments.
  • Flexible Engagement Opportunities: Providing alternative meeting formats, such as virtual sessions or adjusted schedules, to accommodate different lifestyles.
  • Peer Support Network: Connecting members with others.
